437,204. Rail- and road-vehicle undercarriages. HOCKING, E. L. R., 32, Ngamotu Beach, New Plymouth, New Zealand. April 24, 1934, No. 12308. Convention date, May 4, 1933. [Classes 103 (vi) and 108 (ii)] Relates to rail- or road-vehicle trucks or bogies in which lateral movement of each of the axles 22 relative to the chassis is permitted by the interposition of swivelling suspension links 8 between the axle housings 22<a> and the cylindrical ends 6 of a rigid beam 1 adapted to rock on a transverse shaft 2 carried by spring-supported brackets 4. According to the invention the pivotal axes 13 of the links 8 on the axle housings are arranged substantially vertically above the journal ends 6, so that in normal position, the links 8 are approximately vertical. At their lower ends each pair of links 8 form a cylindrical sleeve 9 embracing the part 6, while their upper ends are apertured to receive trunnions 13 projecting from the two halves of a divided sleeve 14 bolted to the housing 22<a>, the various bearings being provided with oil ducts. In the case of both axles being driven the shaft 30 therebetween is capable of some degree of extension and has two universal joints 31, while the usual driving shaft 32 has a universal joint 33 at its end, and torque rods 34 are jointed to the shaft 2 and housings 22<a>.
