420,388. Starting prime movers. BOHLI, J., 15, Dammstrasse, Solothurn, Switzerland. July 7, 1933, No. 19278. Convention date, July 14, 1932. [Class 38 (iv)] In an electric starting system for internalcombustion engines a push button operated switch o is arranged so that in its first position the starter motor b is energized in series with an auxiliary field winding f through normally closed upper contacts on the main starter contactor, so as to cause reverse rotation of the motor. In the second position of the switch a coil g is energized and moves the starter pinion d into engagement with the engine flywheel a, at the same time closing a switch h which causes energization of the main starter contactor to close the main starter circuit at l and connect the field coil f in parallel with the motor armature so as to assist its series field coil e. When the switch o is released after the engine has started, the starter switch l is first opened by opening of the contact h due to de-energization of the coil g, the pinion is dis-engaged from the flywheel and the coil f is re-connected so as to produce a reverse torque and stop the motor rapidly. Finally all circuits are de-energized. In Diesel engines an additional contact on the push switch controls a relay coil r in the first and second positions of the switch o so as to close a switch q in the circuit of incandescent ignition plugs s. At the same time an indicator lamp t is energized.
