Abstract

420,028. Overhead electric lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and WALDRAM, J. M., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Oct. 20, 1933, No. 29097. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In an overhead electric lamp a downwardly directed reflecting surface is combined with a pair of diffusing surfaces one within the other, the reflecting surface and the outer diffusing surface being respectively the upper and lower portions of a unitary envelope having the form of a cone and its base. The latter is not necessarily plane. By this means substantially all the emitted light is built up from light transmitted through one diffusing surface, light transmitted through two diffusing surfaces, and light transmitted through two diffusing surfaces and reflected at one reflecting surface. In the form shown, the lamp comprises an electric bulb which is completely surrounded by a glass vessel having a matt lower part 4 and a silvered upper part 8 with an aperture 3 adapted to be closed by an opaque canopy or the like, and a cylinder with a matt upper portion 6 and an opal lower portion 7, the filament 2 of the bulb lying in the same plane as the boundaries of the parts 4 and 8 and the portions 6 and 7.
