[Class 146 (i)] In a binding case of the type in which a bar or plate, carrying pins or fingers to engage the folds in periodicals, sheets, and the like, extends transversely of the top and bottom of the back, the pins or fingers are fixed to or form part of a three leaf hinge forming the transverse member. The fingers c, Fig. 8, may be of graduated length and be bent inwards at the end to grip the folds of the sheets &c., and are mounted on the three-fold hinge whose outer links C<3> are riveted to the covers A of the binder and whose axes are coincident with the joins between the covers and back B. Alternatively, one set of pins may be mounted on a plate C<4>, Fig. 5, sliding in guides C<1> against the action of springs so that the bound material can be easily removed or introduced. If the fingers c are graduated in length the long finger on one end of the back is arranged opposite the short on the other. The member C carrying the fingers c may be in two parts hinged together so that one can be turned outwards to release the bound material, the hinged part being normally retained by a spring. The fingers c may be stamped integrally from the metal of the member C which may have a channel portion to fit over the top edge of the back, or may be fixed to a transverse member riveted to the hinge.
