Abstract

413,891. Two-stroke engines; regulating. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Sept. 8, 1933, No. 24975. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1932. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi).] In two-stroke engines for aircraft, the blower for supplying scavenging and supercharging air at low altitudes is supplemented by a high-pressure blower, which is coupled to the same drive as the first blower and is brought into action at high altitudes for supplying the supercharging air, the air for scavenging being still supplied by the first blower. The Figure shows the normal blower 13 supplying air to scavenging ports 2 and supercharging ports 3. At high altitudes, a clutch 15 is actuated to bring into action a high-pressure blower 17, a valve 18 being simultaneously moved from the fullline to the dotted position, so as to connect the ports 3 to the delivery pipe 24 of the blower 17, while still retaining the ports 2 in communication with the delivery 23 of the blower 13. A rotary valve 8 controls the passage leading to the ports 3. In a modification, the valve 18 is automatically moved by a piston device acted on at opposite sides by the pressures in the pipes 23 and 24.
