[Classes 49 and 81 (i).] Fumigating - apparatus comprises a gastight chamber 1, Fig. 1, to contain the articles to be treated, one or more reservoirs 6 located within the chamber and containing liquid fumigant such as hydrocyanic acid, a measuring vessel 10 also within the chamber and visible through a window 11 therein, means, such as valves 6<a>, 9<a>, 12<a>, operable from outside the chamber for controlling the flow of the fumigant from the reservoirs and measuring vessel, and a fan 18 and electric or gas heater 19 for the supply of heated air to the chamber to accelerate the fumigating operation and for evacuating the fumigant. The articles to be treated may be placed individually in the chamber 1 or may be contained in a porous wheeled container 2. An evaporating pan 13, which may be electrically heated, may be provided. The outlet 35 from the chamber 1 communicates with a chimney provided with a scrubber containing material such as carbon to absorb the poisonous fumes. Fig. 4 shows the preferred arrangement of two fumigant reservoirs 6, both connected to a single measuring vessel 10 and mounted on a frame 15 supported on brackets in the chamber 1. The reservoirs 6 are provided with valve-controlled air vents 6<e>. In a modification the gastight chamber contains only the fumigant reservoirs and measuring vessel, and the outlet pipes from the measuring vessel and the air heater are connected to a separate gas tight wheeled container within which the articles are treated. Reference is made to the treatment of furniture, bedding, furs, and foodstuffs.
