[Class 20 (ii).] A metal fire-escape ladder in which the top and bottom flanges 6, 7 of the extensible units are formed of profiled bars connected by braces 8 has a box-like construction at the lower flanges provided by rungs 10 connected directly or indirectly to the extreme lower parts of the braces 8. The guiding of the ladder units may be effected by rollers 24 running in the upper profile member 13 of an E-shaped lower flange 15, as shown in Fig. 7, or by rollers 24 engaging between the lower profiled bars 22 and the upper profiled bars 23, as shown in Fig. 11. Additional guiding at the upper flanges may be provided by brackets 26, Fig. 7, attached to one unit and engaging over the adjacent unit.
