Abstract
408,162. Microscopes. ZEISS, C., [firm of], Carl-Zeiss-Strasse, Jena, Germany. Oct. 14, 1933, No. 28441. Convention date, Oct. 22, 1932. [Class 97 (i).] In a revolving nose-piece for a microscope the axes of the objectives carried by the revolving part intersect each other approximately at that point in the object plane which lies in the axis of rotation. The microscope shown comprises a fixed stage 1 and a vertically-adjustable bracket 2 to which is secured the stationary part 5 of the nose-piece, having a spherically concave lower surface the centre of curvature of which is at the point 6 in the surface of an object placed on the stage. The part 5 is formed with a bearing 7 for the spherically curved rotary part 8 formed with apertures 9 the axes of which pass through the point 6. Sleeves 10 screwed into the apertures 9 are internally threaded to allow the objectives 11 to be axially adjusted within them. The ocular part 14 of the microscope is mounted over an aperture 13 on the fixed part 5 of the nose-piece. To enable objects to be examined by incident light, the bearing 7 may be provided with a bore in which is mounted an illuminating-appliance consisting of a lamp 18 and lenses 19 the axis of which passes through the point 6. In a modification the illuminating-appliance is mounted in one of the apertures in the rotatable part of the nose-piece.
