[Class 6 (i).] In a harrow or cultivator comprising tinecarrying rotary elements freely rotatable about axes slightly inclined to the vertical, four such elements are arranged so that the tines which penetrate the soil to the greatest depth make approximately three-point contact with the ground. The framework may comprise front and rear cross-bars 3 and longitudinal bars 4 Two of the latter may be formed at their forward ends for attachment to a loop carrying a drawbar. Two wheels 6 are mounted on cranked axles provided with adjusting levers 7, gearing, or other means for raising and lowering the frame and thus adjusting the depth and width of work. A front wheel 12 may be carried by a member 13 adapted to turn about a vertical axis. The front of the frame may be raised or lowered by a lever 14 pivoted on the member 13, and may be secured by means of a perforated bar 15 and a pin 17. Two front rotary elements 19 are mounted on co-planar spindles converging upwardly, and two rear elements on co-planar spindles converging downwardly, so that the cultivating members on the tilted rear and front elements engage the ground at the sides and centre of the implement, respectively. The rotary elements consist. of spoked metal rings with cultivating tines or members 20 interchangeably secured on the rings and spokes. The tines 20 may be secured by bending their upper ends so as to engage both sides of the ring, and passing bolts or screws through. The implement may be provided with sets of four elements flexibly attached to a single draw-bar. The tilt of the elements 19 may be adjusted by means of pivoted bell cranks 23 carrying bushes for the inclined spindles and adjusted by means of nuts 25 on screwed rods 24. In a modification the rotary elements are freely mounted on inclined spindles which are pivoted on the frame and adjustably linked to pivoted levers provided with adjusting means. In another modification the spindles pass through swivelling bushes and rings on them are connected to links adjustably secured to the frame ; or links may be connected to bushes adjustably secured on the spindles. According to the Provisional Specification the machine may have two wheels at the front and one behind, and may comprise two rotary elements only.
