Abstract
370,043. Electric clocks. NORTH & SONS, Ltd., Whippendell Road, and ALLEN, A. MASSEY-, 142, Queen's Avenue, both in Watford, Hertfordshire. Jan. 2, 1931, No. 216. [Class 139.] An automatic electromagnetic winding- arrangement includes a tappet lever capable of limited movement relatively to the spring- controlled driving-lever and acting as intermediary between the armature and the driving lever. The main spring n controls the weighted driving-lever d<1>, d<2> pivoted at c and carrying a pawl h for driving the clock train. Also pivoted at c is a three-armed tumbler lever e<1>, e<2>, e<3> provided with adjustable weights and controlled by a spring x. As the main spring runs down the lever arm d<2> carries the tumbler lever with it until the spring x crosses the dead centre whereupon the tumbler lever rocks over quickly and its arm e<3> engages the armature q of the magnet p. Circuit is thus completed and the armature rocks first the tumbler lever and then both levers to position the parts as shown in Fig. 5 and so to re-wind the spring n. In a modification the tumbler lever is insulated for use with a non- earth return.
