[Class 51 (ii).] In a tunnel furnace for burning enamel ware of the kind comprising a burning chamber 2 at the closed end of the furnace and a preheating and cooling chamber 3 in front of the burning chamber with means for carrying suspended articles from the entrance 5 to the exit 4 along a path 24 of U-form the base of which lies at the closed end, the waste gases from the burning chamber pass to the chimney 36 through a flue 35 arranged in the floor of the chamber 3 immediately below the incoming ware. The chamber 2 is fired by liquid fuel burners 29 delivering from opposite sides of the furnace into alternate flues 30 the roofs of which are covered with highly refractory material corrugated, as shown, to provide increased heating surface. The flues 30 discharge into side passages 31 from the upper ends of which the gases escape through outlets 32, 33 communicating, directly and by means of a cross-flue 34 respectively, with the preheating flue 35. The ware is carried along the path 24 on trays 19 suspended from rods 15 which extend downwardly through a slot in the furnace roof from trolleys (not shown) adapted to be traversed on a track 10 by an endless chain 12.
