Abstract
1517188 Tunnel kilns J FRANK 6 Sept 1975 36779/75 Heading F4B In a tunnel kiln comprising a preheating zone 1, a firing zone 2 provided with roof burners 5, and a cooling zone 3 and wherein the kiln gases flow countercurrently to cars 6 which carry ceramic ware 7 to be fired, with a portion of the kiln gases being discharged from the preheating zone through a flue 11 containing a suction fan 9, the remainder of the gases in the preheating zone are removed through longitudinal ducts 13 in the kiln side walls and, together with gases from the firing zone 2, are reintroduced into the kiln through lateral openings 17 in the cooling zone 3 adjacent the heating zone for cooling purposes. The amount of gases entering the longitudinal ducts 13 through openings 14 can be controlled by means of dampers 15. Flow of gases through the ducts 13 and through vertical passages 16 to the openings 17 is induced by means of fans 12.
