Abstract
332,028. Shannon, P. June 18, 1929. Axle-trucks and bogies.-In an undercarriage of the kind comprising a central floating bogie capable of transverse sliding movement relatively to the car body, two end bogies swivelly connected to the car body and flexible connecting means between the central bogies and the two end bogies so that the bogies are capable of coacting movement in rounding curves, the end bogies are connected to the body by turntables and a fixed bar carried by the central bogie is pivotally coupled to bars pivoted to the end bogies, the couplings permitting limited telescopic movement of the connected bars. The end bogies 2, 4 are connected to the body 7 by turntables 8 and the central bogie 3 is capable of transverse slidable movement in the guide 9 attached to the body 7. Bars 10, 11 are fixed respectively to the central bogie and to the end bogies respectively and are interconnected by gearing 13 comprising jaws 14, 15, Fig. 3, angularly disposed and provided with rack teeth 18 adapted to engage with gears 19, 20. The gears' 19, 20 are mounted on a central four-armed spider 21 and are provided with bevel gears 23, 24, Fig. 4, adapted to engage with bevel gears 25. An open-ended casing 22 is provided. In a modification the end bogies 2, 4, Fig. 7, are connected to the central bogie 3 by crossed links 26 and also pivoted bars 27 which support turntables 28 capable of sliding in guides 29 secured to the car body 7.
