Portable pressure reservoirs.-In an extinguisher of the kind in which a medium under pressure is released when a frangible seal is ruptured by a cutter, the cutter stem is provided w i t h a valve whereby escape of the medium can be interrupted at will, and a second frangible means is provided which is ruptured by the medium should its pressure become excessive. As shown, the container a is sealed by a disc c held in place by a nut c<1>. The valve head b, d is formed with a chamber b<2> the outlet from which to the discharge nozzle d<5> is normally closed by a valve f<2> on a nut f on the cutter stem e. When the latter is lowered to rupture the disc c, the medium escapes by the tubular cutter g, orifices g<2>, chamber b<2>, and outlet d<4>. If the stem is retracted, the valve f<2> cuts off escape of the medium. The stem c has a bore e<4> separated from the tubular cutter by a second frangible disc h. If the pressure in container a becomes excessive after the disc c has been ruptured and the valve f<2> reclosed, the medium breaks the disc h and escapes by the bore e<4> and orifices e<5>.
