Abstract

304,635. Duffield, F. L. Oct. 22, 1927. Water-tube boilers; tubes, water.-To increase the circulation in the more highly heated parts of vertical boiler tubes c heated by burners near their upper ends, the tubes are fitted with inner tubes d extending from the upper headers a through the upper parts of the tubes, and with extensions e projecting into the headers above the water level therein. Water circulates downwards through the inner tubes and upwards through annular spaces around them. The extensions are formed by welding semicylindrical plates m to flat plates l at the upper ends of the inner tubes. The upper ends of the boiler tubes are protected by refractory coverings 10. The boiler is heated by burners of the kind described in Specification 293,350, [Class 75 (i), Burners &c.].
