Catalytic processes.-Sulphuric acid is prepared from sulphurous acid gases by oxidizing them by a contact process, removing the sulphur trioxide, and treating the remaining gases in towers or chambers packed with broken flint &c. and washed with nitrosylsulphuric acid preferably according to the processes described in Specifications 231,853, 244,764, 249,914 or 267,885, [all in Class 1 (ii), Inorganic compounds other than &c.]. The sulphur trioxide produced by the contact process may be absorbed by the sulphuric acid produced in the second stage.
