Abstract
269,500. Compagnie d' Applications Mecaniques. April 14, 1926 [Convention date]. Padlocks; locks for steering wheels. -An anti-theft device for motor vehicles comprises a stirrup-shaped lock embracing the steering wheel and connected to the vehicle by a flexible member. In the form described a stirrup 1 embraces the steering wheel and is locked thereto by a pivoted member 4 carrying a bolt 5 having a conically recessed nut 6 engaging the conical seating 8. The stirrup is secured to the vehicle by a flexible member 10 anchored in a socket 15 on a pate 14 secured to a second plate 13. The ends of the screws connecting the plate 14 and 13 are removed to prevent unauthorized detachment of the socket. The ends of the member 10 are provided with heads 11, 18, soldered to the member and covered by caps 12, 19. The free end of the member may pass through the part 16 of the socket and hang in an exposed position, shown in full lines in Fig. 6, or may pass through holes in the plates 13, 14 and hang down inside the vehicle body as shown by the dotted lines When not in use, the conical part 2 of the stirrup is inserted in the socket 15, Fig. 6. In the example shown, the bolt 5 is locked in operative position by a permutation device of the co-axial notched ring type.
