Abstract

A means to visually identify a tyre that has been worn to the legal level of tread. This can be achieved by introducing a luminous/reflective layer during the manufacture of a tyre. The layer would be built into the tyre at the exact point at which a tyre when worn down to the legal limit would become visible, thus identifying the need for the tyre to be replaced.

Description

Aluminous/reflective tyre tread wear identifier.
Back2round This invention relates to an aluminous/reflective layer that would be introduced during the manufacture of a tyre. The layer would be at the level at which the tyre when worn to the point of the legal requirement
Statement of Invention
Currently when a tyre is worn to the point of legal tread wear it is almost visually undetectable and requires physical measurement. With the aluminous/reflective layer in the tyre it would be highly visible as soon as the tyre reached the point of legal wear. Giving early indication that the tyre needs to be replaced.
Advanta2es 1. The owner of the worn tyre would have visibility of wear without measurement which would allow him/her to change the tyre sooner rather than later.
2. The authorities would be able to see tyres that are worn, it would be visible during the day and with the reflective layer would also be visible at night and when the tyre was turning.
3. Increased awareness of worn tyres through visibility of the aluminous/reflective layer.
4. Reduce the requirement for tyres to be physically measured to identify worn tyres.
5. Possible camera detection, which would help, identifies illegal road users. (Increase in police revenue).
6. Early identification and subsequent tyre change would mean safer cars on the road, which in turn would reduce the number of accidents and ultimately save lives.
7. With tyres being changed sooner rather than later the tyre manufacturer could see an increase in tyre sales.
The government could mandate that all tyres be made with the alum inous/reflective layer, which would ensure that all worn tyres would be made highly visible. The tyre would almost become self- policing which would benefit all. 2.

Claims (1)

  1. Example
Figure 1. Tyre a' shows a tyre without the aluminous/reflective layer with full tread.
Figure 1. Tyre b' shows a tyre without the aluminous/reflective layer, which has been worn to the legal limit of tread wear.
As can be seen little or no difference is visible.
Figure 2. Tyre a' shows a tyre made with the aluminous/reflective layer with full tread.
Figure 2. Tyre b' shows a tyre made with the aluminous/reflective layer, which has been worn, to the legal limit of tread wear.
As can be seen the worn tyre tread is now highly visible. 3.
    Claims.
    1. The Aluminous/reflectiVe tyre tread wear indicator is a means to visually identify a tyre that has been worn to the legal level of tyre tread, which identifies the requirement for the tyre to be replaced.
