Abstract

Rotary-tool machines; lifting tool frames manually; combinations and arrangements of tools.-A machine for harrowing and hoeing comprises a series of rapidly rotated trailing spiked or bladed heads mounted in a partly balanced swing frame so as to swing freely in vertical planes parallel to the direction of travel. The conical heads 15 are weighted to suit the work and are interchangeable, spiked heads being used for harrowing and bladed heads for hoeing. They are mounted on inclined shafts 12 adapted to swing about a transverse shaft 6 and passing freely through guides carried by the frame 1 supporting the shaft 6. The frame 1 is supported by brackets pivoted on the axle 3 of two travelling wheels 4, and may be tilted by means of a lever 16 to raise the heads 15 from the ground. The shaft 6 is driven from the axle by a clutch and chain gearing and drives the shafts 12 by bevel gearing. All the shafts 12 may be driven in the same direction, or some in one direction and some in the opposite direction. Change-speed gearing may be provided. According to the Provisional Specification the shafts 12 may be jointed.
