Description

A RAZOR
This invention relates to a razor.
Razors for so-called wet-shaving are well known. Their design has not altered for many years. There is a need for a razor which is of a different design and which gives a user greater sensitivity of feel through the razor and into the user's shaving hand. It is an aim of the present invention to provide such a razor.
Accordingly, in one non-limiting embodiment of the present invention there is provided a razor comprising a body portion, a receiving formation which is in the body portion and which is for receiving at least one finger of a user's hand, and at least one shaving blade on the body portion, and the razor being such that: (i) in use the razor is worn on the finger and shaving is effected with the shaving blade; S.....
* * (ii) the receiving formation has an entrance which extends parallel with the shaving blade whereby in use the finger extends transversely to the shaving blade; and * * (iii) the shaving blade is positioned on the body portion such that in use S..
the shaving blade is underneath a finger tip part of the finger whereby shaving sensitivity is afforded through the finger tip part of the finger.
The razor of the present invention is advantageous over known currently used razors for wet shaving and which comprise a razor head which contains the razor blade, and a handle which extends from the razor head and which masks sensitivity of feel for the user of the razor. With the razor of the present invention, the finger of the user's shaving hand is virtually at the place where shaving is taking place and this permits much more sensitivity to be achieved than is possible with known razors.
The razor of the present invention is mainly for shaving a person's face. If desired however the razor of the present invention may be used for shaving other body parts, such for example as legs and/or bikini-lines of The receiving formation may be a chamber, and the chamber having an entrance for the finger. Preferably, the chamber is of a length for receiving substantially all of the finger. The chamber may be of a longer or shorter length if desired.
Preferably, the chamber is for receiving two or three of the fingers. The ** chamber may be made for receiving one or four fingers if desired.
*:.z Alternatively, the receiving formation may be an aperture. In this case the body portion may be an endless loop which defines the aperture.
With the razor of the present invention, the body portion can be wider * .* than a shaving head of a known razor. This enables the shaving blade in the razor of the present invention to be longer than that in a known razor. Thus, for example, the length of a shaving blade in a known razor may typically average 35mm. The shaving blade of the present invention may be up to substantially longer than the length of known shaving blades. Thus, typically, the length of a shaving blade of the present invention may be 35-55 mm.
The razor may include guard formations for helping to prevent cuts during shaving, for example in the event that the razor should slip during shaving.
The shaving blade may be flexible. A flexible shaving blade may be advantageous in enabling it to curve with the curve of the body part being shaved, for example a person's jaw on their face.
Advantageously, the shaving blade is on the body portion at a position directly underneath the tip of the finger in use of the razor. This position is especially advantageous for giving sensitivity of feel during shaving, with the feedback from the shaving being through the user's fingertips.
The razor blade may be one in which the shaving blade is changeable in shaving direction. The shaving blade can then change direction, and for example it can change from a normal shaving direction in which the cheeks and jaw of a person are shaved on the opposite shaving direction in which * * shaving is able to be effected underneath a user s nose.
The shaving blade may be pivotable for changing the shaving direction. In this case, the shaving blade may pivot about a pivot which extends through the body portion. The shaving blade may be pivoted about * 6.
* the pivot by pulling from the outside of the body portion, or pushing from the inside of the body portion.
Preferably there are two, three or four of the shaving blades. There may alternatively be one of the shaving blades or more than four of the shaving blades.
Where there is more than one shaving blade, then the shaving blades will normally be constructed to act in synchronism with each other. Thus, for example, the synchronised shaving blades may be arranged to be flexible enough to mould to facial or other body part contours. This wiH then give the user an instant feel, and feed back to the closeness of the shave. This will be especially so if the blades are underneath the user's fingertips.
Usually, the body portion will be made of a flexible material. A rigid material may be employed if desired.
The flexible material is preferably a water-resistant material. The water-resistant material may be a plastics material, or a rubber material. The plastics material may typically be nylon. The body portion may be made of alternative materials if desired so that, for example, the body portion may be made of a flannel fabric which would absorb water but would then be able to * ** tie * use the water for friction-reducing purposes during shaving. *0 *
The body portion may be provided with a friction-reducing coating. The friction-reducing coating may be employed for all materials from which the body portion is made, although the friction-reducing coating may be especially s*e * advantageous when the body portion is made of a water-resistant flexible material. The friction-reducing coating may be a silicone coating. The friction-reducing coating may alternatively be Teflon (Registered Trade Mark). The material from which the body portion is made will usually be thin in order to facilitate good finger shaving sensitivity.
The body portion may alternatively or additionally be made of an elastic material so that the body portion is able to grip the finger.
The razor may include skin-gripping means, the skin-gripping means being positioned on the body portion and between the shaving device and the entrance to the chamber. The skin-gripping means may grip the skin by friction and pull the skin tight just before the skin receives the shaving device and hairs are cut.
The skin-gripping means may comprise at least one skin-gripping formation extending transversely of the body portion. There may be two of the skin-gripping formations. The or each skin-gripping formation may be in the shape of a straight bar or a pair of wings of a bird. Other designs for the skin-gripping formation or formations may be employed, for example a sign wave formation or formations.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a first razor of the present invention and in use; *-Figures 2, 3 and 4 are sections through part of a second razor of the present invention, and illustrate the use of a pivoting shaving blade; Figure 5 shows a third razor of the present invention in use; Figure 6 is a front view of a fourth razor of the present invention; and Figure 7 is a side view of a fifth razor of the present invention.
Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a razor 2 comprising a body portion 4, and a receiving formation in the form of a chamber 6. The chamber 6 is in the body portion 4 and is for receiving at least one finger 8 of a user's hand 10. The razor 2 also comprises an entrance 12 to the chamber 6, and four shaving blades 14 on the body portion 4 as shown.
The razor 2 is such that it is worn on three of the fingers 8 as shown, and shaving is effected with the shaving blades 14. The entrance 12 extends parallel with the shaving blades 14 whereby in use the fingers 8 extend transversely to the shaving blades 14. The shaving blades 14 are positioned on the body portion 4 such that in use the shaving blades 14 are underneath a finger tip part 15 of the fingers 8 whereby shaving sensitivity is afforded through the finger tip part 15 or the fingers 8. The razor 2 is convenient to use, and it provides good shaving sensitivity via the finger tip parts 15 of the fingers 8. Better shaving and with less cuts is thus able to be achieved, as compared with known razors.
As shown in Figure 1, the chamber 6 is of a length for receiving * * substantially all of the three fingers 8. Each shaving blade 14 is approximately -55 mm long. The shaving blades 14 are at a position on the body portion 4 which is underneath the tips of the three fingers in the chamber 6. This *:::* heightens sensitivity received by the finger tips through the razor 2.
The body portion 4 is made of a flexible water-resistant material. This material may be a plastics material such as nylon. It may alternatively be a rubber material.
The material from which the body portion 4 is made is thin to enhance good shaving sensitivity.
The body portion 4 includes skin-gripping means 16. The skin-gripping means 16 are positioned on the body portion 4 and between the shaving device 14 and the entrance 12 to the chamber 6. The skin-gripping means 16 grips the skin being shaved by friction, and pulls the skin tight just before the skin receives the shaving blades 14 and hairs are cut. As shown, the skin-gripping means 16 comprises two formations 17 which extend transversely of the body portion 4 and which are in a wavy formation.
Referring now to Figures 2, 3 and 4, there is shown part of a razor 24 having a body portion 26. A shaving blade 28 is shown on the body portion 26. The shaving blade 28 is pivotabte about a pivot 30. The shaving blade 28 as shown in Figure 2 is such that the shaving blade 28 is in a normal shaving position with its shaving edge appropriately positioned for normal shaving.
Figure 3 shows how the shaving blade 28 can be pulled on the pivot 30 (or pushed on the pivot 30) to unlock the shaving blade 28 and pivot it around through 1800. In the pivoted position of the shaving blade 28, the culling *:*. edge of the shaving blade 28 faces the opposite direction and this may be very convenient for shaving with a pushing action, for example in order to' shave Under a user's nose. Figure 4 shows the shaving blade 28 pushed back towards the body portion 26 and locked in the reverse shaving position such for example as is required to shave under the user's nose. When this type of shaving has been completed, then the shaving blade 28 can be returned back to its normal position by further pivoting, the normal position being as shown in Figure 2 and in which shaving is effected with a pulling action.
Figure 5 shows a razor 32 in use on three fingers 34 of a person's hand 36. The razor 32 is positioned underneath the finger tips 37 of the fingers 34 as shown. This gives good sensitivity of feel during shaving. The razor 32 comprises a body portion 38, and three shaving blades 40. The fingers 34 are inserted through a receiving formation in the form of an aperture 42 in the body portion 38 of the razor 32. More specifically, the body portion 38 is in the form of an endless loop, and the endless loop defines the aperture 42. The aperture 42 extends through the body portion 38. The aperture 42 has an entrance 43 which extends parallel with the shaving bLades 40. The body portion 38 may be made of a non-elastic material.
Alternatively, the body portion 38 may be made of an elastic material so that the body portion 38 is able to grip the tips of the fingers 34 during shaving, and thereby ensure a good grip on the finger tips of the fingers 34 during shaving.
Figure 6 shows a razor 44. Similar parts as in the razor 2 have been given the same reference numerals for ease of comparison and understanding. The razor 44 has skin-gripping means in the form of three CC> bars 22. As shown in Figure 6, the top shaving blade 14 has twin sharpened edges 46, 48. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the top shaving blade 14 may alternatively be an individual upwardly facing blade.
Figure 7 shows a razor 50. Similar parts as in the razor 2 have again been given the same reference numerals. In the razor 50, the body portion 4 includes external gripper means for helping to pull the body portion 4 over the tips of the finger or fingers of the user. The external gripper means is in the form of three ribs 52. The razor 50 has a double-width double-edge singular top shaving blade 54 and three downwardly facing shaving blades 56. The use of the top shaving blade 54 avoids the need to pivot a blade to the opposite facing direction for shaving upwardly. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the top shaving blade 54 may alternatively be an individual upwardly facing blade.
It is to be appreciated that the embodiments of the invention described above with reference to the accompanying drawings have been given by way of example only and that modifications may be effected. Thus, for example, a friction-reducing coating may be employed on the surface of the body portion 4 of each of the razors in order to facilitate a smooth sliding action across the face or other body parts of a person shaving. Also, the razors shown ip the drawing may have more or less than the illustrated number of blades.
Individual components shown in the drawings are not limited to use in their drawings and they may be used in other drawings and in all aspects of the invention. * * * S p *
