Description

Title Baby feeding bottle with temperature indication 1 Background 1.1 This invention relates to a baby feeding bottle with feed temperature indication.
1.2 According to conventional method, baby formula is mixed with warm water, and then either left to cool to the correct temperature for feeding, or refrigerated for later warming to correct feeding temperature. Correct feeding temperature is ascertained by dripping the mixture from the bottle onto the wrist, where it should feel neither too hot nor too cold.
1.3 This technique has three problems associated with it: firstly, the procedure is messy; secondly, new parents have no reference for what the mixture should feel like on their wrists, and learn this only from experience; thirdly, the perceived temperature is sensitive to both drip-rate from bottle to wrist, and to room temperature.
1.4 A solution to this problem is proposed whereby the temperature of the feed is indicated on the surface of the bottle.
2 Description 2.1 A baby feeding-bottle is printed with temperature-sensitive ink to provide a graduated scale of temperature, with the acceptable feed temperature band marked in mid-scale, and upper and lower extremes marked as "too hot" and "too cold"respectively (see figure 1). The calibration allows for the small difference between the temperature of mixture inside the bottle and the temperature at the surface. Tests have shown this offset to be reasonably constant within the likely range of ambient temperatures.
2.2 In an alternative embodiment ofthe invention, a flexible plastic thermometer-strip is bonded to the surface of the bottle, once again indicating the acceptable band of temperatures and upper and lower extremes.
2,3 In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the bottle is moulded from a plastic containing materials which cause the bottle to change colour according to temperature. In this case, the entire bottle is compared with a reference standard on the label to indicate correct feeding temperature.

Claims
1 A baby feeding-bottle which is printed with temperature-sensitive ink to indicate correct feed temperature.
2 As 1, but with the acceptable feed temperature band marked in mid-scale, and upper and lower extremes marked as too hot and too cold respectively.
3 As 1, but with a temperature scale marked in degrees Celsius and/or degrees Fahrenheit, calibrated to represent the temperature of feed inside the bottle.
4 A baby feeding bottle to which is affixed a self-adhaesive temperature-strip, indicating correct feed temperature, and indicating upper and lower limits.
5 As 4, but marked with a temperature scale in degrees Celsius and/or Degrees Fahrenheit.
6 A baby feedeing bottle all or part of which is moulded from a plastic which contains materials which cause the bottle to change colour according to temperature.
7 As 6, wherein the bottle is compared with a reference standard on the label to indicate correct feeding temperature.
8 As 6, but with a legend to indicate correct temperature which appears or disappears according to temperature.
