Abstract
A golf putter comprises a head, having a front surface (14a), and a shaft (10) secured to the head, the head having a transparent plastics portion (14) extending rearwardly from the front surface (14a). The transparent plastics portion (14) is secured in a peripheral frame (12) to which the shaft (10) is attached. <IMAGE>
Description
A GOLF PUTTER
This invention relates to a Golf Putter.
The putter is the club used, in the game of golf, for hitting the ball into the hole when on or close to the green. To many players it is considered the hardest part of the game and therefore the simpler putting can be made, the easier it should become.
To putt the ball into the hole, the player must look at the hole and then the ball and having determined the line of the putt, watch and hit the ball along that line into the hole without further reference to the putter.
By making the putter head of a transparent material, the desire to look at the putter when making the stroke is considerably reduced.
Furthermore, as the front surface or face of the putter has a slight degree of loft and because of the transparent plastic material from which it is made, the face appears as two parallel lines, which assists in aiming the club on the desired line.
Another fundamental to straight putting is to establish that the putter head is kept parallel to the ground: being able to see the grass underneath the putter when addressing the ball makes this a simple process.
According to the present invention there is provided a Golf Putter comprising a head, having a front surface, and a shaft secured to the head, the head having a transparent plastics portion extending rearwardly from the front surface.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 shows the putter in perspective
FIGURE 2 shows the transparent plastics portion.
FIGURE 3 shows the peripheral frame to which the shaft is
secured
Referring to the drawing in Figure 1 the Putter comprises a shaft (10) with a grip (8) at the top. The shaft is secured to the peripheral frame (12) which in turn secures the transparent plastics portion (14) extending rearwardly from its front surface (14a).
The transparent plastics portion (14) (FIGURE 2) in this embodiment being Polymethylmethacrylate (PEMA) is secured within the peripheral frame (12), which is preferably of a metallic construction, by means of flanges on the top and bottom of the frame (12) (FIGURE 3). These flanges are designed to engage with the corresponding recesses on the top and bottom edge of the transparent plastics portion (14).
The weight of the putter is determined by the weight of metal in the peripheral metallic frame (12). By enclosing the plastics portion (14) within the frame (12), a more uniform distribution of weight is achieved across the front surface (14a). The front surface (14a) of the plastics portion (14) is designed with a slight degree of loft which helps impart top-spin on the ball. The consistency of the material (PUMA) used in the plastics portion (14) gives the putter additional force or touch at impact in order to propel the ball without having to strike it too hard and therefore lose control.
Claims (3)
1. A Golf Putter comprising a head having a front surface and a shaft secured to the head, the head having a transparent plastics portion extending rearwardly from the front surface.
2. A Golf Putter as claimed in Claim 1 in which the head comprises the transparent plastics portion secured in a peripheral frame.
3. A Golf Putter as claimed in Claim 2 in which the shaft is secured to the peripheral frame.
