Abstract
219,016. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of McFarland, E. H.). July 12, 1923, [Convention date]. Lubricant, retaining.-Between a turbine 5, and each bearing 14 devices for cooling and retaining oil are fitted. As shown, a bearing end cap 19, preferably in sections, has chambers 2'6 through which a cooling- medium is circulated. Oil leakage along the shaft 7 is largely prevented by a collar 15 and a thin disc 16. A ring 17 on the shaft throws any oil that leaks past the collar 15 into a chamber 18 in the end cap 19, whence it returns to the bearing casing. The chamber 18 has an oil guard ring 23. Steam escaping from the turbine 5 is deflected outwardly by a disc 25 on the shalt 7 between the cap 19 and the turbine 5 and the disc 25 also catches any oil that escapes past the ring 23.
