Abstract

A screw compression joint for central heating pipes and the like has a socket 16 with a plane internal shoulder 22 and an internal screw thread 21 which receives a hollow screw 24 through which extends the pipe 23. To clamp and seal the pipe, a compression ring 25 in the socket has a tapered outer end 30 which is compressed onto to the pipe by an internal conical surface 31 in the inner end of the screw. The other end 32 of the compression ring has an annular cutting edge which is pressed onto and preferably bites into the shoulder 22, to provide a second seal. The same socket can alternatively receive a screwed pipe end. <IMAGE>
