Abstract
The current or power output from a limited electricity supply is continuously measured by a circuit 5 and compared with predetermined transient and steady threshold levels. If the measured level exceeds the transient threshold level, all interruptable loads 9 are disconnected by a microcomputer 7 which switches off the respective triac 10 in series with the load, and are subsequently reconnected one at a time when the transient condition has passed. If the measured level exceeds the steady threshold level, the interruptable loads 9 are disconnected one at a time according to a predetermined priority scheme, and the disconnected loads are subsequently reconnected according to the same or an altered load priority scheme. Under the load priority scheme, certain loads have a greater prospect of connection to the supply during a predetermined time period, but all loads are assured a predetermined minimum connection time. <IMAGE>
