Abstract

A sliding window assembly 1 comprising a support frame 3, sliding window panel 5 and a ventilation panel 6 which may be a grid or mesh formed from a sheet of steel perforated with holes. The sliding window panel 5 is mounted to translate laterally within the support frame 3 and the ventilation panel 6 is mounted to pivot with respect to the support frame 3 whereby when in the closed position, the ventilation panel 6 is configured to extend across an opening aperture that is formed when the sliding window panel 5 is in the open position so as to allow air flow but restrict access, and when in the fully open position, the ventilation panel 5 is configured to allow access to the interior or the sliding window panel 5. Preferably there may be a reciprocating drive mechanism for moving the sliding panel which includes a rotatable handle and a gear system. Also claimed is a situation wherein the ventilation panel is just a standard second panel. A sliding element assembly for translating the door is also claimed.
