Abstract

1756. Row, R. R. Jan. 23, 1911, [Convention date]. Overlap joints with tapered spigots and with bolts and flanges; plates, securing tubes to.- The tube end 4 is bent back over the conical surface of a ring 6 and is pressed into a conical socket 5 by a union nut, bolts and flanges, or other suitable means. The conical socket may be the end of a tube to which connexion is to be made, or, in attaching tubes to boiler &c. plates, it may be a conical hole in the plate. The parts may be drawn together by a plate 7<a> bearing on the ring 6 and having oppositely disposed slots engaging bolts 8, with nuts 9, the underside of the nuts being conical, and bearing against the chamfered edge 11<a> of the slot. The socket may have a more rapid taper than the pipe end, and the ring 6 may be cut away to provide a space 6<b>. This construction allows expansion due to rise in temperature, without deformation of the pipe.
