19,461. Mead, J. J. Aug. 24. Reservoir pens. -In a self-filling fountain pen of the type in which the ink is sucked in by withdrawing the cap, the cap 18 is weakened near one end and the weakened portion is surrounded by one or more rubber bands, a spring, or other packing 22, protected by a band 23 of steel, hard rubber, &c. The barrel 1 has an opening at the top e n d which is closed by a threaded hollow member 6, in which is a sliding float valve 8 having a slot 10 through which passes a supporting-pin 9, fitting tightly in the member at one end and loosely in an air aperture 17 at the other end. The barrel 1 is tapered at 19 to limit the movement of the cap, and has grooves 24 at each end to vent the cap. The valve may be of rubber, or may be a piece of cork having a looped suspending- wire. The member 6 is slightly unscrewed for filling, and the cap is reciprocated until the ink raises the valve.
