STYLOGRAPHIC PEN.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed ll'u ne 1, 1909. Serial n. 499,327.
TQ all whom it may concern:
Beit known thZLtIL LEON. TnoTzKY, a sub-' je'ctnof the Czar of Russia, residing at'Pitts' burg,.in the. county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and"useful' Improvements in Stylographic Pens, of which the following is a specificahad therein to the ac{ companying drawing.
This' 'nvention relates to stylographic pens and h'asfor'its object to provide in a manner as hereinafter setfforth a" simple and durable stylographic pen adapted for a of the-pen. I
In describing the invention n detail ref-V .erence is had to the accompanying drawings use with various kinds of writing fluid and to furthermore provide a stylographic pen with a valve. mechanism as hereinafter illustrated, which will be positive in its action and not liable to be injured through ordinary use and furthermore to provide a stylo graphic pen in the'inanner as hereinafter set forth with means whereby the writinmflu d willbe caused to flow freelyduringthe use wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several 1O designates a stern threaded in theupviews, and in which, Figure 1 is an elevationof a stylograph c pen in accordance with this invention, Fig.
2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a detail illustrating the adjustingscrew and guide pin for the' valve spring.
Referring to the drawings in detail 1 denotes a tube having the upper end thereof interiorly lower end threaded "as at 3.
tdesignatesa plug adapted to screw in the upper end: of the tube 1, said plug having a 0 longitudinal bore 5, the upper end of which is interiorly. screw threaded, as at 6, andterminates in an annular recess 7 formed inthe upper end of the plug, Thelower end of the bore 5 is constructed, to form a valve seat 8, and this seat communicates with the recess 7 through the medium of a by-path 9.
per endof the plug 4, saidstem having a contracted end 11 servingfunctionally' as a valve adapted to engage the seat Sand close the lower .end of the by-path 9f The upper end of the stem is provided with-a knurled cap 12 loosely fitting over the upper end of theplug 4. This'cap 12 through the nediiini of the lower end of the stem 10 regulates the passage of air into the tube 1 and within the ink screw-threaded as at 2, andf-its v the flow of the contents of said tube frointhe lower end thereof, as will hereinafter appear; r I j v l3 designates a hollow conical shaped head threaded in thelower end of the 'tubewl.
Patented eb, 8, 1910.
This head is providedwith a longitudinal v bore l tterininating In an opening 15 at the apex of the head. -In the opening 15 is solderedor. otherwise secured afeed tube 16 havingthe lower end thereof contracted to a small opening i7 through which extends the writingpoint 18 ofa rod-l9. The rod r 19 extends:upwardly-through thefeed tube 16 and. is connected-to a valve 20 having a resilient gasket 21 adapted to seat upon the upper end of thefeed tube 16 Connected, to the head 13" and adapted to project in the tube 1 is a bracket 22 having its free endprovided with an angularly disposed portion formed with ascrew-threaded aperture through which extends a headed adjusting screw 23 provided witha depend-* ing guide pin 24 for-a coil spring 25. The latter is interposed between the angular end of the bracketQZ 'and'the valve '20, and thelower end of saidspring isretained in eni gagement with the valve by a vertical guide pin 26, carried by the valve 20 and alining withthe pin 24. Q'
[The 'feed tube 16 in connection with the head 13 forms anannular compartment 27 in the conical 'end of said head, said c0in- 'partrnent being provided for the-accumulation-of sediment or otheihmatter contained of the'same' t P -In operation, pressure upon the point 18 will "shift the valve from the inner end of the feed t'ubethereby. allowing the writing 'fiuid topass into the tube andthe point 18. Shifting of'the valve 2Q from the inner end tirely shut off by closing the by-path 9, which serves functionally as a" vent, and by regulating the stem 10, the operation of the pencil can be easily controlled.
Since the cap 12 loosely fits the upper end of the plug 4, the recess 7 of the plug and detrimental to the flow- The flow of ink from the pencil can be enloo prevents the upper end of the bypath or vent 9- from being closed by the cap.
The spring 25 used in connection with the pencil is made of a material not susceptibleto corrosion or a chemical action by the contents of the pencil.
The pencil can be made of metal 7 hard rubber, or a similar strong and durab 9 material.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, is
A stylographic pen comprising a tube.con stituting a reservoir, means for closing one end of said tube, said tube having its other end provided with interior threads, a hollow head comprising a cylindrical body'portion and a cone-shaped outer end, saidbody portion provided with threads engaging with the threads of the tube whereby the'head is connected to the tube, a feed tube extending through and connected to the conical end of said head, said'tube extending in said body portion and projecting from said conical end, a rod arranged in the feed tube and projecting from the outer end of the feed X tube and constituting a writing point, said rod projecting in said reservoir, a valvular means connected to said rod intermediate its ends and engaging the inner end of said feed tube for closing 1t, an inverted L-shaped bracket connected to the inner end of said head, a coiled spring interposed" between said bracket and said valve and constituting a means for maintaining the valve against the feed tube for closing it, said valve actuated from its seat when pressure is applied to said rod, and means carried by the bracket for adjusting the tension of said spring.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence oftwo witnesses.
LEON TROTZKY.
