Abstract
1533384 Removal of H 2 S BRITISH GAS CORP 10 Nov 1975 [28 Nov 1974] 51562/74 Heading C1A Thiosulphates are removed from aqueous redox wash liquors by adding an aqueous solution of sulphuric acid of concentration 10-50% w./w. at ambient to 100‹ C., wherein the amount of sulphuric acid solution added to said liquor is such that the gram-molecular weight ratio of the H 2 SO 4 to thiosulphate ranges from 1:1 to 1:3. The aqueous redox wash liquors may be obtained by treating a hydrogen-sulphide containing gas or non-polar liquid with aqueous alkaline wash liquor comprising a salt of an anthraquinone disulphonic acid or derivative thereof and a compound of a metal having at least two stable valency states. After acidifying according to the invention the resultantsulphate-containing solution may be subjected to a solubility lowering technique and the solid sulphate may be removed from the resultant mother liquor, which may be returned to the process liquor stream after suitable pH adjustment.
