Abstract

Controlling variable-speed gearing.-Variablespeed gearing contained in a casing 1, Fig. 1, is operated by turning a quadrant 13 about a pivot 12 by means of a selective hand lever 15. The quadrant 13 is normally positively locked by a pivoted lever 25 and is connected to the lever 15 through an energy-storing device 18, which allows the lever 15 to be moved to effect selection while the quadrant is locked. When the operating-lever 26 of the main clutch 10 is actuated, a lever 28 trips the lever 24, releasing the quadrant 13. The speed change is then effected by the energy in the device 18, which may consist of two springs 21, 22, Fig. 3, with a plunger 20 between them. The invention is applicable to motor-vehicles.
