336,161. Motorenfabrik Deutz Akt.- Ges. Dec. 13, 1928, [Convention date]. Variable-speed gearing.-A variable-speed gear for vehicles in which changes can be effected without substantial interruption of the drive comprises a pair of friction clutches A, B which connect the gear trains I, III and II, IV respectively to a shaft h, driven from the power shaft through reversing-gear c, d, e. The clutches are operated by levers F, F<1> connected by a link L adjustable at H. In making a change, the selected gear is engaged and runs idly until the clutch A or B is thrown in, the other being simultaneously thrown out, when the new speed is communicated to the driven shaft 14. During the change some slipping of the clutches is permitted. For a neutral position of the gear a toggle device E is actuated, releasing both clutches.
