Abstract

1435303 Shipbuilding system SUMITOMO SHIPBUILDING & MACHINERY CO Ltd 30 Oct 1973 [18 Jan 1973 28 Feb 1973] 50446/73 Heading B7S In an installation for assembling ship hull subassemblies each consisting of a pair of vertical sub-blocks 1, 2 transversely spaced apart in parallel relation and a horizontal sub-block 3 extending between them and joined to their upper or lower edges, the installation comprises a parallelepiped structure 5 whose ceiling and at least one side are openable. The sub-blocks are separately carried into the structure and positioned with the ends facing end wall 16 of the structure against stoppers 14, 28 by moving them on pallets 12 and 13 and by use of a heavylift crane. Holders 19, 20 each releasably hold one end of the vertical sub-blocks of which holder 20 is transversely movable along beam 18 to adjust the distance D1 according to the required distance between the vertical subblocks. A second pair of holders 23, 24 mounted on transverse beam 22, holder 24 being movable along the beam, releasably hold the other ends of the vertical sub-blocks and this transverse beam is movable to adjust distance D2 according to the length of the vertical sub-blocks. Scaffold carriages 8 are provided with vertically movable scaffolds 26, 26<SP>1</SP> and carriage 29 on the floor of the structure carries the assembled sub-assembly out of the structure.
