Abstract
1426866 Continuous casting DAVY INTERNATIONAL Ltd 19 Feb 1973 [17 Feb 1972] 7360/72 Heading B3F A feed tube 10 of graphite or cermet material has an end portion 9 whose outer surface abuts the inner surface of a recess 8 in a continuous casting mould 5 of metal, e.g. copper. Molten copper is supplied from a brick-lined metal tundish 1 to the tube 10, which is fitted in an alumina-based ring 12 at the tundish outlet 4 in the embodiment shown. The tube 10 is clamped to a mould jacket 6 by a bolted apertured plate 14. In another embodiment, an outer end portion of the feed tube is of reduced outer cross-section and fits into a part-frusto-conical fireclay body sealed to the tundish.
