Abstract
1,126,922. Casting processes. H. J. DAUSSAN. 1 July 1965 [1 July, 1964], No. 27917/65. Heading B3F. Metal poured into a moulds first enters the cavity of a dish or cup-shaped vessel C, Fig.1, in the mould and spreads over the vessel bottom surface to rise up its side wall and be directed back towards its axis by an inturned rim R. Impurities are retained in the vessel while metal, possibly after. recycling in the vessel, finally flows into the mould. As shown, a high side wall of the vessel C. (which floats on the. metal in the mould) may produce a back-flow of trajectory D and a final decantation as at F but .a. lower wall, could produce a trajectory D<SP>1</SP> with a decantation F<SP>1</SP>. A vessel for use in a bottompour mould,. Fig. 2 (not shown), has a central hole and fits over a spigot (1) of the mould bottom-plate (B) until it floats and rises as the mould fills. A vessel C<SP>3</SP>, Fig. 5, located on the bottom of a tundish C<SP>3a</SP>, extends through a top-cover 2 welded to a continuous casting mould A<SP>1</SP> and the metal J<SP>3</SP> flowing from the tundish, after travelling over the inner surface of the vessel C<SP>3</SP> as described, decants through a ring of ports 10 down into the mould. The tundish with its attached vessel can be withdrawn quickly and replaced by a similar device while it is cleared of the retained impurities.
