Abstract

1422565 Coil formers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 March 1973 [25 March 1972] 13855/73 Heading B8M [Also in Division H1] A winding body of insulating synthetic material for a transformer comprises inner 1 and outer 3 coil formers with end flanges 11, 13 adjacent each other and projecting radially outwardly, and at the other end of the assembly outwardly projecting flanges 17, 27, integral with former 1 and inwardly projecting flange 15, integral with former 3. Coaxial winding spaces 9, 7 are formed thereby with respect formers 3, 1, and a central aperture 5 is formed, which may be filled with a ferromagnetic core. Creepage is allowed by means of spaces 19, 23, and space 29 which is at least as wide as flange 15. Outer former is in two parts joined by overlapping portions (31, 33, Fig. 2, not shown) and cutouts (43) to lead connection wires into winding space 9 are provided on flange 27. Apertures (37, Fig. 3, not shown) are provided in flange 13 to allow lead connection to inner winding space 7. In a second embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) creepage gaps are formed between the flange pairs at each end of the formers, in the spaces between alternating ridges and grooves 149, 151, respectively the ridges of each flange engaging the grooves of the other flange; the fifth flange 27 is absent. In a third embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), the end flanges are rigidly connected together by welding or glueing at (255).
