Abstract
1414233 Vacuum sintering super alloy powders FEDERAL-MOGUL CORP 26 Oct 1973 [27 Oct 1972] 50044/73 Heading C7D Super alloy powder, especially Ni super alloys are vacuum sintered in two stages, (a) at a temperature e.g. 1600-2000F at which the primary carbides are converted to secondary or simplex carbides and (b) at a higher temperature below the incipient melting temperature e.g. 2100-2350F. The powder, preferably <425 microns, may be sintered as a powder in a mould or as a green compact at a vacuum < 1000 microns; the first temperature is held for 10-100 hours and the second temperature for 1-20 hours. The sintered article may be hot or cold coined or forged and heattreated. The specification lists many Ni super alloys e.g. INCONEL (Trade Mark), NIMONIC (Trade Mark) which may be vacuum sintered to produce improved U.T.S., Y.S. and %E.
