1406367 Electronic timepieces SUWA SEIKOSHA KK 16 July 1973 [19 July 1972] 33733/73 Heading G3T [Also in Division G5] In an electronic timepiece comprising an electro-optical display, (e.g. liquid crystal, lightemitting diodes, ferro-electric material, or transmissive ceramic material known as PLZT) an integrated circuit chip 16, Fig. 4 is connected by gold wires 22 and metal (reed) terminals 21A to the display. The end of each terminal 21A is bent at right angles as shown, Fig. 5 and resiliently contacts a respective terminal of the display panel 15. The chip 16 is rigidly secured to some of the terminals 21 and supported on a planar basemember 23 (e.g. of resin material) on which the wires and terminals are mounted by a transfermoulding technique, the base-member serving as protection against damp. The electronic circuit in the chip includes an oscillator circuit controlled by a quartz oscillator outside the chip, a frequency divider and a distribution circuit. The liquid crystal is conventional and includes base-plates (1, 2), Fig. 1 (not shown), with a transparent conductive film electrode (4) on each of the opposing faces and separated by a nylon spacer (3). Liquid crystal material is inserted between the plates through an aperture (6) which is afterwards sealed by a metal pin (7).
