Abstract

1371990 Modulating light; transistor switching circuits SUWA SEIKOSHA KK 15 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971] 6983/72 Headings H4F and H3T [Also in Divisions G4-G6] An A.C. driven liquid crystal display device operated by integrated circuits including complementary field effect transistors. A panel comprising liquid crystal material between electrodes a ... g arranged in a figure of eight and a common electrode P so connected to the output terminals a<SP>11</SP>... g<SP>11</SP> and P<SP>11</SP> of the integrated circuits and a decoder is connected to the input terminals a<SP>1</SP> ... g<SP>1</SP> of the circuits. Square wave A.C. is applied through an inverter to the electrode P and to the circuits. The output of the circuits is in phase with the potential applied to electrode P until signals from the decoder turn selected transistor T 1 on and T 2 off. Corresponding outputs are thereby inverted resulting in potentials occurring between selected electrodes a ... g and P. In another embodiment the transistors T 1 , T 2 are replaced by AND, OR gates including C-MOS transistors. Six figure of eight displays are used to indicate time in a clock or watch including a quartz crystal oscillator or a mechanical vibrator.
