Abstract
1497346 Ignition systems LUMENITION Ltd 13 Feb 1975 6028/75 Heading F1B An ignition system includes a photo-detector 2 which will conduct when exposed to radiation, a radiation source 1, an opaque element 3, having apertures or slots therein, positioned between the radiation source and the photo-detector, means for rotating the opaque element in timed relation to the engine revolutions and a transistorized ignition circuit having a plurality of switching Darlington pairs Q1, Q2 connected between the photodetector and an ignition coil 4 and switching in inverse relation to one another, the first Darlington pair Q 1 of the circuit also switching in inverse relation to the photo-detector 2 whereby on energization or de-energization of the photodetector the transistorized ignition circuit causes the fast switching of the primary winding of the ignition coil 4 to thereby induce a spark voltage in the coil secondary winding. The chain of Darlington pairs can have two, four or six pairs for one mode of switching or three, five or seven pairs for the reverse mode of switching. The photo-transistor and the Darlington pair or pairs, other than possibly the power Darlington pair, may be formed on the same monolithic chip. Specifications 1219833, 1330453 and 1410782 are referred to.
