Abstract
1490102 Repairing structures BALFOUR BEATTY Ltd 8 Sept 1975 [7 June 1974] 36897/75 Divided out of 1490101 Addition to 1399510 Heading E1S [Also in Division D1] A structure, e.g. a building or bridge having cracks or pores therein is repaired by the introduction of a hardenable material in a liquid or semi-liquid state, the method comprising applying over the surface of the structure a flexible porous reinforcing sheet 7, e.g. a glass fibre mat, applying over the sheet 7 a fluid-impermeable covering 8 (preferably of the form described in Parent Specification), sealing the boundary edges of the covering to the structure to form a fluid-tight enclosure, evacuating air from the cracks 6 or pores adjacent the covering and from the voids in the sheet 7, and admitting the hardenable material into the evacuated cracks or pores and into the voids in the sheet 7. Preferably, the covering 8 is spaced from the sheet 7, e.g. by projections on the sheet 7 or other spacers, and the hardenable material is allowed to fill this space, so that a surface layer of material is formed around the sheet 7. If the covering is not so spaced, a further layer of material can be applied to the sheet 7 afterwards.
