Abstract

1487198 Reciprocating motors W H KURPANEK 17 Sept 1974 [19 Sept 1973] 40425/74 Heading H2A A motor comprises two permanent magnets rigidly supported in a housing to define a space therebetween and a reciprocable body in the space polarized by an electromagnetic field generating means, the polarization being periodically reversed such that the body is attracted and repelled alternately by the two permanent magnets. Cobalt rare-earth magnets 1, 2 are rigidly mounted in a housing to provide a chamber 30 in which a coil 5 produces a magnetic field which polarizes a ferromagnetic plunger 9. The movement of the plunger towards either magnet operates a commutator switch to reverse the current in coil 5 thus producing reciprocating movement. A number of pairs of magnets may be arranged in a single housing with interconnected plungers, the coil currents being arranged accordingly, to provide sufficient power to drive various tools (Figs. 2-5 not shown).
