1480608 Laminated wood panels OBER FRANCE 10 Dec 1974 53383/74 Heading B5N A laminated panel with a facing sheet of synthetic resin impregnated wood whose surface has the natural grain of the wood exposed in relief is produced by preparing an assembly A comprising an underlayer of synthetic resin 1, e.g. phenol resin, and a wood facing sheet 2, covering the facing surface of the wood facing sheet with a paper sheet 3 impregnated with a synthetic resin, e.g. melamine resin, preparing a die B comprising between a sheet of aluminium foil 5 and a sheet of kraft paper 6 a layer of plastics material 4, e.g. of polyethylene, which is flowable under heat and pressure, disposing the die and synthetic resin impregnated paper sheet in face-to face relation with the aluminium foil in engagement with the resin impregnated paper sheet, and by subjecting the assembly, the synthetic resin impregnated paper sheet and the die to heat and pressure deforming the foil about the grain of the wood facing sheet to press the synthetic resin impregnated paper sheet into the zones of softer wood between the grain of the wood to expose the grain in synthetic resin covered relief and to bond the resin impregnated paper sheet to the wood facing sheet.
