Abstract

Thermosetting resin articles are produced by (a) impregnating a sheet with an open cell structure with a thermosetting resin, (b) placing a layer of fibrous reinforcing material on one side of the impregnated foam sheet, (c) compressing the foam sheet and the reinforcing layer so that the resin is pressed out of the sheet into the fibrous reinforcing layer and this layer is impregnated with the resin over its entire thickness, and (d) curing the resin in the sheet and in the layer while the pressure is maintained. - Esp. suitable for producing large articles, such as boat hulls, as large areas of fibrous reinforcing material can be simultaneously impregnated.
