Abstract
1472968 Aerials PLESSEY CO Ltd 23 Dec 1975 [28 Jan 1975 20 Feb 1975] 3568/75 and 7123/75 Heading H4A Antennae are made by securing together by adhesive two co-operating dielectric parts 1, 2 of relative permittivity of at least 25 and a loss factor of not more than 4% to sandwich conductive material therebetween free from adhesive at selected positions. The parts 1, 2 may be hollow plastics cases filled with powdered dielectric ceramic or may be of ceramic powder and consolidating agent that has been extruded, slip cast, isostatically pressed or moulded. A suitable ceramic is given in Specification 1,471,859. In Fig. 1, a Yagi array comprising conductive rods 3-6 is formed with moulded dielectric parts 1, 2 using an intermediary adhesive layer 7 of epoxy resin prepared as a stamped pre-form. In a modification (not shown) the conductive material may be deposited by thin or thick film, plasma spraying or electrodeless deposition techniques. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the reflector 6 is replaced by a metallized disc surface (21) at the end of a dielectric stub cylinder (22). Other embodiments are a cone and cup (Fig. 4, not shown) a sheathed helix (Fig. 5, not shown), a reflex antenna in rectangular blocks (Fig. 6, not shown) and a Yagi array formed as a multilayered sandwich clamped in a housing (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown). The rods 3-6 may be of Cu or Al whereas deposits may be of Ag.
