Abstract
1457343 Photocells COULTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS Inc 31 Jan 1974 [14 Sept 1973] 04547/74 Heading H1K A transparent photocell comprises a transparent substrate 18, and first and second transparent thin film (of the order of a thousand Angstroms thick) conducting layers 12, 14 sandwiching a transparent thin film inorganic photoconductive layer 16, the layers 12, 14, 16 being intimately bonded to each other and to the substrate 18, whereby the current through the layer 16 is a measure of the light flux 22. The layers 12, 14, 16 are sputtered on to the substrate 18 which may be a lens or a polyester sheet. The layer 12, 14 may be of indium oxide up to about 100Š thick and the layer 16 may be copper-doped cadmium sulphide or indium zinc sulphide, or other listed inorganic compounds. The absorption of the photocell is less than 10%. Contact strips 26, 28 are deposited for applying a D.C. potential across the layers 12, 14.
