1451544 Reciprocating motors O'DELL MFG Inc 20 Feb 1974 [1 March 1973] 7662/74 Heading H2A A liquid pump comprises a non-magnetic axially extending liquid passage, spaced magnetizable members having confronting magnetic portions, at least one of which is a reciprocating pumping member within the passage and an assembly including means creating an alternating magnetic field having opposite flux polarities in each half-cycle which causes the said at least one member to move in the same direction during each half-cycle. The glass tube 24 passes through a laminated core having legs 14-20 and carries a toroidal coil 62 connected to an A.C. supply 66. Inside the tube, two iron pumping members 36, 50 are bonded to resilient soft rubber liners 48, 52 and are magnetized by the alternating flux field such that they attract in each half-cycle although each is alternately oppositely poled (Figs. 3, 5, not shown). The liners 48, 52 have protrusions 48a, 54a which are compressed when the members 36, 50 meet and thus provide stored restoring energy to separate the members when the flux field decreases. The liners 48, 52 are formed into seals 40, 46, 56, 58 at each end of the members 36, 50 which allow liquid to flow in only one direction (upwards). Thus as the members 36, 50 reciprocate, liquid is drawn from the source W into the chamber between the members when separated and is forced out through the outlet 30 when the members 36, 50 move together. A perforated stop 61 is provided at the inlet to prevent the members 36, 50 being lost when the pump is inoperative.
