Abstract
1335016 Boots &c MASCHINENFABRIK MOENUS AG 16 May 1972 [22 May 1971] 19371/72 Heading A3B In a shoe bottom roughing machine of the type in which a lasted shoe 1 is moved on a carriage 4 past one or more roughing tools 18 which are guided by a cam member on the carriage 4, the cam member is a composite cam whose effective profile varies with its height, and the cam follower which controls the tools 18 is automatically moved heightwise to select the cam profile appropriate to the size of shoe 1 in the. machine. As described the shoe 1 is mounted on the carriage 4 by means of a last pin 2' and toe rest 3. The toe rest is slidable lengthwise of the, carriage 4 and carries a bracket 5 having an inclined slot. An arm. 7 which carries a roller 6 is pivoted at one end to the carriage 4 and at its other end engages the inclined slot. Movement of the toe rest 3 into engagement with the shoe 1 therefore positions the roller 6 heightwise in accordance with the size of the shoe. When the carriage 4 moves along its guides 21 the roller 6 engages and depresses a ramp 8 which is held in its depressed position by a ratchet 23. The ramp 8 is connected at each side of the machine to a control arm 10 which carries a cam follower 11, thus setting the heightwise position of the roller 11 according to the size of the shoe. The composite cam includes two cam discs, one disc 14 corresponding to the smallest size of shoe, the other disc 15 corresponding to the largest. The discs 14, 15 are engaged at each side by intermediate rollers 13' connected to an inclined cylindrical member 13 which engages the cam follower 11. Thus, according to the height of the follower 11, the follower 11 follows a cam profile intermediate the profiles 14 and 15 depending on the size of the shoe. Each control arm 10 is connected by a link 16 to an arm 17 which carries the rotary wire roughening brushes 18. The depth of roughening can be adjusted by altering the position of a guide finger 20 adjacent each brush 18. The machine also includes an abrasive band 19 which roughens the toe and heel ends of the shoe.
