Abstract

1,086,198. Boots &C. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. Oct. 1, 1964 [Oct. 4, 1963], No. 39914/64. Heading A3B. A toe lasting machine having a pair of wipers 2, 4 which advance and close has means to adjust the amount of closing movement of each individual wiper relative to its advancing movement. The wipers 2, 4 are mounted in carriers 6, 8 having cam rolls 20, 22, 24, 26 which run in cam tracks 30, 32, 34, 36 in a cover plate 14. The cover plate 14 is slidably mounted in guides 60, 62 on the wiper head 12 and is moved forwards to advance the wipers by a piston rod 58. The carrier 8 is pivoted to a link 42 which is pivoted at its other end to one arm of a lever 46 which is pivoted to the cover plate 14 at 50 and to a stationary pivot 82 so that as the wipers advance the stationary pivot 82 causes the arm 46 to rotate about the pivot 50 to close the wipers. The stationary pivot can be moved along the arm of the lever 46 by a threaded rod turned by a handwheel 94 to vary the effective length of the lever 46 and thus vary the amount of closing movement of the wiper 4. The pivot 82 can also be moved lengthwise of the machine by a threaded rod 70 turned by a handwheel 74, lengthwise movement of the pivot 83 causing the lever 46 to rotate about the pivot 50 and thus adjust the initial position of the wipers. The lefthand wiper 2 is adjusted by a similar mechanism.
