1328430 Forging presses SCHLOEMANN AG 29 Sept 1971 [29 Sept 1970] 45337/71 Heading B3H A multicylinder forging press has its frame formed of four hollow columns 2 with four or more sides and eight crosspieces 3, 4 which are arranged to extend between the ends of the columns and to overlap each other at the corners of the frame. The columns 2 and the crosspieces 3, 4 are box-type beams of welded plates and are fixed together by four tie bolts 9 at each corner. The lower die 14 of the press is mounted on a fixed table 13 supported on a multi-layer beam 15 supported at the ends by bearing blocks 16 on the sides of the pit 1 in which the press is situated and at its central zone by a box-type beam 17. The upper die 23 is mounted on a crossbeam 21 made up of T-I-beams 22 and fixed to the crosspieces 4 at the top of the frame. The upper ends of the columns 2 each have an end plate 11 on which a clamping plate (24), Fig. 3 (not shown), is mounted. Each clamping plate (24) has four hydraulically urged wedges (27). The press frame is vertically reciprocable and is raised by four hydraulic piston-cylinder units 12 and moved downwards on a working stroke by four hydraulic pistoncylinder units 19, 20 between the lower crosspieces 3, 4, and the beams 15, 17. The units 19, 20 have the bases of their cylinders in contact with the beams 15, 17 and their pistons in contact with the crosspieces. If the units 19, 20 overstress the frame a gap may occur between the columns 2 and the upper crosspieces 3, 4 and the wedges (27) are urged into the gap to keep the frame rigid.
